submit your work to the 1147 journal @ TCU

http://www.1147.tcu.edu/submit.html

About Us

Who we are:

eleven40seven is TCU’s student-run, undergraduate journal of the arts. Originally started by the Bryson Literary Society in 2005, the journal now operates independently, run by an undergraduate staff and one faculty advisor. Together, we work to publish the journal biannually.

What we believe:

The journal has always aimed to present a student perspective that differs drastically from mainstream campus culture, promoting TCU’s artistic and creative endeavors. Our desire to be different, to be unexpected, is an important part of our history and identity. Our name became eleven40seven. Our mission became to showcase the different, the new, the meaningful in the work generated by our fellow students.

Why call ourselves eleven40seven:

When deciding on a name for the journal, some of the founders originally planned a brainstorming session for noon. However, in the spirit of individuality, the other founders argued that the meeting should take place at 11:47 a.m. instead. Though the brainstorming itself produced no lasting results, the meeting time stuck. When the first issue came out in Spring 2005, it was that meeting time, that first statement of our distinct identity, that sprawled across the cover.

Why we exist:

Today, eleven40seven is a highly respected publication, and though our acquisitions process is competitive, we have remained accessible to all students, offering them a place to display their own creative work and a place to appreciate the work of their peers.

Drawing 1: still life (graphite) critique - Monday Feb. 17th

Drawing 1 students this is a reminder about the goals of your Still Life project.

- Create a representational drawing using Graphite to compose and build up value.
- Record detail and observations that would not otherwise arise if not asked to stare at a group of objects for 6-9 hours.
- Gain insight into the process behind creating a richly layered drawing.
- Begin to understand how Value shifts, Edges, Sharpness, and Contrast create the illusion of space.
- Make shifts in technique to represent a wide range of textures.
- Record a full range of Values ( Black blacks, white of the paper, middle tones)

Here are the examples from last semester, email me with questions *(virtual advice can be given as I am out of town, send pics of your still life)

Reminder: Spring Juried Art Exhibition

From Devon Nowlin, Gallery Director
As a reminder - artwork delivery for the OPEN CALL is taking place this Thursday, 4 - 6 pm and Friday morning, 9 - 11 am. Students should bring works to Moudy Gallery during these times to have them considered for exhibition and awards.

I have sent students this reminder as well, and have gotten a few questions back about whether or not to frame work. If they ask you about it, please encourage proper presentation for paper and photographic works, in particular. The juror will surely consider presentation, though framing isn't a requirement for entering work.

Opening Reception and Awards Presentation next Monday, February 16, 5 - 6:30 pm

More information
Exhibition Dates: February 16 - March 7, 2014
Studio Art Juror: Tiffany Wolf Smith, Assistant Curator of Education, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
