We have four class meetings (which are Primarily work days) left before Dec. 10th, our last class day and final critiques.

Jules de Balincourt

7pm, @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (free, but tickets required from the front desk)

Jules de Balincourt is a contemporary painter and he will speak about his work,
which is newly on display at the Modern as part of their Focus series.

You can write about the experience of seeing his show or attending the
lecture as part of your last two response papers (one page in length).

Beginning Painting

Come to class Weds (Nov. 19th) with your canvas, ideas, source artist(s), be ready to discuss, and work on your final project.

The info found there will inform your final project and requires your attention.

On Weds we will discuss what you found there and I will give you an overview
of the artists we'll be looking at for additional inspiration.

Beginning Painting

Constructed Space project

You will have one more in-class work day, Weds. Nov. 12th.
Please plan accordingly, so that your painting is ready for the critique on Mon. Nov. 17th.

Drawing II

Collaborative Project:
We will continue to work on our collaborative drawing project in class, primarily constructing/taping them together. As time allow we will inflate the drawing. This project is part III of your landscape project. If you missed class on Monday the 10th, please consult with me on how you can make up the time.

Abstracted Landscape Drawing/from Photo:
You should be working on this for homework. This drawing (part II of your landscape project) will be due on the 17th at the beginning of class, along with your finished on-site drawing (part I of the landscape project).

JAVIER TELLEZ @ Fort Worth Contemporary Arts

Javier Tellez exhibition begins FRIDAY NOV. 7th, there will be a reception from 6-8pm.

There will be informational panels and screenings of Tellez's films.

Beginning Painting for Monday, Nov. 10th

Beginning Painting: constructed space project

On Monday:

1. you will be half-way through our in class work days.
2. you will have one week until our critique
3. you should have multiple layers on your canvas
4. you should have the entire canvas covered with at least one layer of paint

Feel free to schedule office hours with me
or Alyssa if you need help outside of class.

Drawing II : for Monday, Nov. 10th

Drawing II: Landscape project

We will work in class on a collaborative project on Monday and Weds.

You will need to bring oil pastels and ink.

Your homework for this week and next,
is to finish your Landscape drawings
for our Monday, Nov. 17th critique.

Part I: make any tweaks or adjustments to your on-site drawing
Part II: develop and finish your abstracted, patterned drawing from the photo. This drawing should be dense, layered and relate loosely back to your on-site drawing.

Monday, Nov. 3rd - Drawing II

Drawing II Today we will be looking at your finished drawings from the Botanic Gardens.
We will consider the how working on site and then from a photo affected your drawing.
This week in class we will work on a second drawing, with only the photo as a reference.

Examples we will consider for abstracting your landscape:
